He married CAROLINE MATILDA HARWOOD, daughter of STEPHEN and ISABELLA HARWOOD, about 1865, Kent?, ENGLAND. She was born about 1844, Woolwich, Kent, ENGLAND; d. after 1881.

Children of ROBERT J. MIDDLETON and CAROLINE HARWOOD are:
  1. ROBERT MIDDLETON, b. 1865, Woolwich, Kent, ENGLAND; d. after 1881. As a young man, he was a grocer's assistant.

  2. ARTHUR GEORGE MIDDLETON, b. 30 Sep 1867 and chr. 3 Nov 1867, St. Mary, Woolwich, Kent, ENGLAND. He died as an infant in or near Woolwich, Kent.

  3. CAROLINE MATILDA MIDDLETON, b. 24 Aug 1869 and chr. 3 Oct 1869, St. Mary, Woolwich, Kent, ENGLAND; d. after 1881.

  4. STEPHEN SAMUEL MIDDLETON, b. 27 Jun 1873 and chr. 3 Aug 1873, St. Mary, Woolwich, Kent, ENGLAND; d. after 1881.

  5. AMELIA ISABELLA MIDDLETON, b. 15 Jul 1878, Woolwich, Kent, ENGLAND; d. after 1905; mar. ALFRED PALMER, before 1905; b. before 1885; d. after 1929.
