May 7, 1853, John Forrester of Habersham County, Georgia, states that he resided in Spartanburg District of South Carolina when he was in Captain Alexander's Company of Sumter's Brigade of Cavalry and that he resided for some years in Greenville and Pendleton Districts, before moving to Habersham County. Charles Tankersley served in the same regiment (Brandon's) but in a different company. Charles' widow Catherine is drawing a pension. William Forrester (age 60) has always known John and first knew him in Spartanburg District, SC and that he resided later in Greenville, Pendleton, and Habersham. William signs by mark, May 7, 1853. Richard Tankersley (age 62) swears that he knew John Forrester in all of the places mentioned and that he often hear Charles Tankersley talk of him and Forrester serving together in the Revolution, including at the Battle of the Cowpens. Richard Tankersley signs by mark on May 7, 1853.

This Indenture made the 27th day of February one Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty nine Between William Fox of Caroline County on the one part and and Robert Walker of the County of King George on the other Part Witnesseth that the said William Fox for the Consideration hereafter mentioned on the Part and behalf of Richard Tankersley doth with the free Will and Consent of the said Richard Tankersley his Ward put the said Richard Tankersley his Ward an Apprentice unto the said Robert Walker to Serve him as a Faithfull and Honest Apprentice ought to do till the said Richard Tankersley shall be of age furthermore the said Richard Tankersley by and with the Consent of the Worshipfull Court of King George doth further Covenant and Agree that he will Faithfully Serve the said Robert Walker for the Term of Five years from the day of the Date hereof as a Faithfull and Honest Apprentice ought to do and the said Robert Walker on his Part doth Oblige himself to Teach the said Richard Tankersley the Art or Mistery of a Joyner and Provide for him sufficient Meat Drink Washing and Lodging fitting for a Apprentice further the said Robert Walker doth by these Presents Promise to Pay at the Expiration of the above five years the Sum of Twelve Pounds Current Money unto the said Richard Tankersley and for the true Performance of all and every the said Covenants and Agreements either of the said Parties bindeth himself unto the other firmly by the Presents.

In 1769, SC had 8 Circuit Court Districts, one was known as Ninety-Six District. Between 1785-89, eight counties were established within Ninety-Six District: Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenville, Laurens, Newberry, Pendleton, Spartanburg, and Union. Later, labels fluctuated between either Districts or Counties, and additional counties were formed from these. Today, 15 of SC's 46 counties were formed from some part of what was Old Ninety-Six District.
Ninety-Six District: Abbeville, Edgefield, Newberry, Laurens, and Spartanburg (all formed in 1795)
Washington District: Pendleton and Greenville
Pinckney District: Union and York
Camden District: Chester, Lancaster, Fairfield, Kershaw, and Sumter

Charleston District: Charleston and Colleton
