Will of John Griffin, made Dec 2, 1742, proven Feb 3, 1743In the name of God Amen: I, John Griffin of St. Thomas Parish in the County of Orange in Virginia ....... all my lands near Terry's Run..... My five youngest sons: John, Richard, James, Anthony and Joseph each to receive his part when he arrives at age of twenty one years.... My loving wife Margaret Griffin all the rest of my estate both real and personal during her natural life and at her decease to be equally divided amongst all my children: David, William, Mary, Katherin, Sarah, John, Richard, James, Anthony, Margaret and Joseph.
Executors: Son-In-Law William Jones and wife Margaret.
Witnesses James Pendleton, Elizabeth Chambers, Lannah or Tannah Jones.
Signed: 2nd Day of Dec. 1742. Proven: Thursday the 3rd day of February, 1743.

Will of William Griffin written: Oct 17, 1750, proven: Apr 2, 1751William Griffin of L, being sick and weak To my wife - I lend her my plantation which I now live on, with 300 acres of land appertaining thereto, during her widowhood, after which I give the land to my son, William Griffin. I also lend my wife 2 feather beds, 3 dishes, 1 basin, and 6 plates, 2 iron pots, 1 brass kettle, and 1 frying pan, during her widowhood. I also give her 1 feather bed, 2 rings, and 1 sheet, 1 cow and calf, and 1 horse. Also, I give her all my hogs. To my son William - 1 bed, bolster, bed quilt, blanket, and sheet. Also 1 mare, 4(?) cows and calves, 1 bed that I have lent my wife. To my daughter Elizabeth - when she comes to the age of 18 years, 1 cow and calf. To Henry Green, son of John Green - 100 acres of land on Buffalo Creek, to be laid off at the upper end of my land. To Ralph Griffin, son to Richard Griffin - 100 acres of land adjoining the aforesaid Henry Gren [sic] on the lower side. To my son and daughter - the household goods that is not given, is to be equally divided between them. As for my debts, to be got to discharge mine and to the support of my family, 1 rifle, 1 smooth-bore gun, 1 black horse, to be sold to pay my debts and to support my family. My will is that no part of my estate shall be appraised.

Will of John Griffin signed: Apr 7, 1797, probated: Sep 28, 1807In the name of God Amen, I John Griffin now of Halifax County, Virginia being sick and weak of body but sound as to mind and many thanks to Almighty God for the same, but knowing that time is appointed for all men now to die do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First, I commit my soul to the God who made it and this my body tot he clay from whence it came to be decently burried at the order? of my Executor hereafter named and as to my worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath in the manner and form following. First my will and desire is that my executor pay off all my just debts. I give and bequeath to my daughter Nanney Arrington all that she already received to her and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mourning Griffin one feather bed & furniture, one cow and one calf, two pewter dishes ?, two pewter plates, half dozen spoons, and one iron pott [sic] to her and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Salley Jones all that she has already received to her and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Betsey Jarratt all what she has already received to her and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Karen Griffin what she has already received to her and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son John Griffin the part he has already received to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Armintha Vaughn what she has already received to her and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann William the part she has already received to her and her heirs forever. And the rest of my estate whatever both real and personal I leave to my beloved wife, Sarah Griffin during her life or widowhood . At the end of which period it is my wish and desire for it all to be sold by my executor and the proceeds arising therefrom be equally divided among my son and daughters before mentioned and I do nominate and appoint .... Luke Wiler, James Griffin, Willikam Wilson and my wife, Sarah Griffin, my whole and sole executors and executrix of this my last will and Testament and annulling all .......wills before made by me declaring this to be my last will Testament. To witness thereof I do hereto set my hand and seal the 7th? day of April, 1797.

Will of James Clarke Griffin proven Oct 26, 1843Know all men by these presents that I James C. Griffin being of sound mind and memory, take and desire my last will and testament constituting and appointing Robert H. Maxwell, Thomas J. Pickett, and Richard Simpson my executors to this my last will and testament. 1st I desire all my just debts paid. 2nd I give and bequeath to my sons William and Joseph N. Griffin the whole of my real estate I do possess. Conditioned that my wife Sophia shall uninterrupted possession of the said real estate that I possess at my death during her widow hood or until my son arrives at 21 of age. And in the event of my wife marrying before my sons arrive at 21 years of age I desire my Executors to take immediate possession and xx or xx out for the xx benefit and interest of my sons William and Joseph N. Griffin. And if either of my sons arrive at age before mentioned I desire the land real estate sold and the surviving son to be paid out of the money arising out of said sale when to be paid my executors when he arrives at 21 years of Age. $1,100 and the balance if any to be equally divided between my surviving children or their issue by my first wife. And if both of my sons William and Joseph N. Griffin die before arriving of age the whole of their bequests be equally divided between my surviving children of my first wife, or their issue. 3rd I bequeath to my daughter Sarah Ann Griffin two negro slaves, Oretha and Syretha. I bequeath to my daughter Margaretta Griffin two negro slaves Jeffrey and Mary. I bequeath to my daughter Narcissa Griffin two negro slaves Jane and Rose. I bequeath to my daughter Rebecca Griffin two negro slaves Sealy and Moriah. I bequeath to my daughter Georgeanna Griffin two negro slaves Saulson and Sarah. I desire the above willed negroes valued. And those of my daughters having the most valuable, that each one may receive that same amount. And should one or more of my daughters die before marrying, or coming of age their negroes to be equally divided between the surviving daughters or their issue above by my last wife. 6th. I bequeath to my wife Sophia Griffin. All household furniture herein named, our beds, bed stands,xx, bedding, furniture, side chairs, tables, tablecloths,towels, knives & forks, cooking xx ware, coopers saw, and what kitchen furniture she may stand in need off. With the express understanding and condition that my daughters, Sarah Ann, Margaretta, Narcissa, Rebecca, Georgeanna marries or arrives at age, each one of them is to have a bed, bed stand and furniture. I bequeath to my wife Sophia Griffin an equal share with my children to receive it in professity at valuation or money at her discretion and choice. Exclusive of what I heretofore bequeath her. All the balance of my property of every kind and character I desire to be sold and after paying my last debts the balance if any to be disposed of as follows: I bequeath to my son Clark Griffin one dollar. Griffin WebsiteIn the name of God, Amen, I William Griffin of the state of Tennessee and county of Robertson being of sound mind and faithful memory do this thirty first day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following. That is to say in the first place I wish all my just debts be paid according to contract and in the second place I leave to my beloved wife so long as she lives those Negroes and half the household furniture __ __ __ of my mares together with as much of everything that I am now possessed of or Bartly Pitts, James Gambill upon their oaths shall think she might need in her present situation together with the tract of land I now live on. And at her death I will my sons Rueben and Larkin to have the land equally divided between them. I also will to Reuben and Larkin a part of the other property just what James Gambill and Bartley Pitts may think to lot off to them. I will to my youngest Peggy before there is a full division one hundred dollars. I also will to my sons Richard and Ira Griffin twenty dollars each. I will all the rest of the property that is not __ to be sold and the money divided equally without distinction among my daughters, that is to say all the parishable property together with the Negroes. William Griffin's estate division:
Pursuant to an order of the worshipful county court of Robertson, November ten the directed executors have this day divided the estate of William Griffin now in the hand of Ira Griffin executor of said deceased as follows, viz: We find in the hands of the executor after all the precific legacies being paid the sum of $266.63 which is divided between eight legatees namely: Polly Jones, Nancy Warnick, Lucy Warnick, Sally Hirch, Patsy McLinden, Ivy Yeates, Elizabeth McCasily, and Margaret Griffin.
