Myrtle Vera (Martin) Bobo
Contributed by Debra McCannServices for Mrs. Myrtle V. Bobo, 88, Broken Bow, were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Norwood Funeral Chapel in Broken Bow. Mrs. Bobo died Thursday at Salem, Ore. Born July 7, 1888 in Texas, she resided here many years and was a Baptist.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Caudle of Broken Bow, Mrs. Ruby Coates of Livermore, Ca., Mrs. Audra Tollett of Aumsville, Ore., and Helen Turner of Sweet Home, Ore.; two sons, John Taylor of Golden and David Taylor of Springfield, Va.; a brother, D. W. Martin of Battiest; 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Burial was in Watson Cemetery at Oak Hill under the direction of Norwood Welch Funeral Home.
John Taylor
Contributed by Debra McCannFuneral services are being held at 2:00 p.m. today for John Taylor, 70, Broken Bow, who died Sunday. Services will be in the Norwood Chapel at Broken Bow, with the Rev. O. C. Sutterfield officiating. Burial will be in Hochatown Cemetery.
Born April 29, 1916 in Broken Bow, he was a retired truck driver and a member of the Baptist Church. He had lived here all his life, marrying Marie Young in Idabel on May 19, 1941. He was preceded in death by his son Herbert Alvin, on April 15, 1964.
Survivors include his wife Marie, of the home; sons, Harold of Edmond and Pete of Oklahoma City; five daughters, Sue Burns of Dallas, LaWanda O'Day of Edmond, Mamie Rush of Oklahoma City, Linda Whitson of Tecumseh and Debbie Scaffetta of Arlington, Texas; a brother, David Taylor of Springfield, Va.; four sisters, Beatrice Caudle of Broken Bow, Ruby Coates of Livermore, Ca., Audra Tollett of Aumsville, Ore., and Helen Turner of Sweet Home, Ore.; 23 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Susie B. Childs
Contributed by Debra McCannMrs. Susie B. Childs, 63, of Broken Bow died Saturday morning in the Idabel hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Norwood-Welch Funeral Chapel in Broken Bow. Burial was in the Glover Cemetery.
Mrs. Childs was born Sept. 15, 1907 in Clover and had resided in McCurtain County all her life. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Broken Bow.
Survivors include one son, Melvin G. Childs of Harlington, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Jenny Lee Jones of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Birl Story of Broken Bow and Mrs. Harry Williamson of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
Ruby Arvena (Taylor) Coates

July 24, 1914 - June 11, 2000 Ruby Coates, a homemaker for 67 years, died at home. She was 85. The native of Broken Bow, Okla. lived in Livermore before moving to Healdsburg four years ago.
Survivors: Daughters, JoAnn Tankersley of Healdsburg and Jeanette Polar; sons, Jim Burgess of Sweet Home Ore., and Harvey Coates of Alameda; sisters, Beatrice Caudle of Broken Bow, Audra Tollett of Aumsville, Ore., and Helen Turner of Sweet Home; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her first husband Kelsey Burgess, died in 1954, and second husband, Abram Coates, died in 1990.
Services: 2 p.m. burial today at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Livermore. Arrangements by Callaghan Mortuary, Livermore.

Saturday, April 28, 1934 Mr. E. Scaggs was laid to rest in the Pollard Cemetery last Wednesday. Mr. Scaggs was a member of the Baptist Church. We will miss him in church and prayer meeting. Our sympathy extends to his wife and children. He left to mourn for him his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Peppers of Wright City; Mrs. Dora Moye of Whitesboro,Okla.; Mrs. Eva Thomas and Mrs. Simmons of Marshall Hill, and three sons, Herment, Guy and George Scaggs all of Marshall Hill, also many friends and relatives.

Mrs. Lawrence Thomas, 58, Idabel route, died at her home at 3:35 a.m. Saturday. Born June 14, 1907, at Patmos, Arkansas, she had resided in this couty 53 years, moving from Arkansas. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Lawrence Thomas, Jr., Oklahoma City, and Charley M. Thomas, Milpitas, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Lena Wilkerson, Idabel, and Mrs. Fannie Brewer, Idabel route 1; two brothers, Guy Scaggs, Peace Valley, Mo., and George Scaggs, Wright City; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Moye, Wright City, and Mrs. Isabel Peppers, Longview, Wash., and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Norwood-Welch chapel with Rev. Elmer Hollingsworth officiating. Arrangements and burial in Harris cemetery were under direction of Norwood - Welch funeral home. Bearers were Carl Kupke, Basil O'Rear, Morris Edmondson, Bob Chapman, Bill Parker and Elbert Turnage.
Houston Wilkerson
Contributed by Mary ThomasFuneral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday for Houston Wilkerson, 73, Idabel, who died December 24 in Idabel. He was born March 11, 1921 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and had lived his entire life in McCurtain County. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the DAV, and affiliated with the Jehovah Witness faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Geneva Wilkerson in 1990. Survivors include two nephews, William Wilkerson, Brownsville, TX, and Larry Wilkerson, Wright City; four nieces, Eloise Frazier, San Pablo, CA, Hazel Robbins, Hialeah, FL, and Earlene Farley and Linda Becker, both of Idabel. Services will be held in Norwood/Coffey-Leonard Chapel in Idabel with burial in the Harris Cemetery.
Lena Geneva (Thomas) Wilkerson
Contributed by Mary ThomasLena G. Wilkerson, 64, of Idabel, passed away Saturday at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. She was born October 1, 1926 at Idabel. She had lived in McCurtain County since 1961 moving here from Los Angeles, Calif., and was a retired log grader from Weyerhaeuser Company. She was affiliated with Jehovah's Witnesses. She and Houston Wilkerson were married in 1957 in Carson City, Nevada. She is survived by her husband, Houston Wilkerson of Idabel, and several special nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday at Norwood-Coffey-Leonard Chapel with Scot Radcliff officiating. Burial was in Harris Cemetery under direction of Norwood Funeral Home in Idabel.
Fannie Brewer

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Norwood Chapel in Idabel with burial in the Harris Cemetery under the direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel. Mrs. Brewer was born on Dec. 13, 1927 in Idabel to Lawrence and Eva Thomas and lived here all of her life. She married Herbert Brewer on June 23, 1951 in Clovis, N.M. She was affiliated with the Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Herbert Brewer, of the home; four sons, Robert James Murray, Jimmy Edward Murray, Herbert Charley Brewer and Thomas Houston Brewer, all of Idabel; three daughters, Shirley Ann Alley, Sandra Kay Williston and Geneva Juanita Allison, all of Idabel; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and one sister, Lena Wilkerson, of Millerton. She was preceeded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Herbert Brewer

He was preceeded in death by his wife, Fannie, in 1989. He is survived by his mother, Dovie Brewer, of Idabel; four sons, Robert Murray, Jimmy Murray, Charlie Brewer, and Thomas Brewer, all of Idabel; three daughters, Ann Alley, Sandra Brewer Williston and Geneva Allison, all of Idabel; two sisters, Margaret Payne of Idabel and Jo Bivings of Earlsboro; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were scheduled for 3 pm.

Dec 14, 1904 - Apr 2, 1992 Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, for Dora Moye, 87, Wilburton, a longtime Valliant area resident who died April 2 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born December 14, 1904 and was a lifetime resident of the Valliant area. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Wilburton and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy D. Moye on May 16, 1983. Survivors include two sons: Thomas D. Moye, Jr., of Wilburton, Douglas Moye of Wright City; five daughters: Ann Cook of Grants, N.M., Nan Webster of Idabel, Torue Renfro of Fall City, WA, Joyce Patterson of Wilburton, Patsy Vick of Pulyallup, WA; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, April 4 in Norwood/Coffey-Leonard chapel of Idabel with Reverand Dan Williams officiating. Arrangements and burial in Valliant Cemetery under Norwood.day at Norwood/Coffey-Leonard Chapel in Idabel with Rev. Thomas Steel officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery under direction of Norwood/Coffey-Leonard Funeral Home of Idabel.

McCurtain Gazette, Saturday, Feb 20,1960 Russell Hardwick, 62, Harris, died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at his home. Born February 10, 1898 at Foreman, Ark., he had resided in McCurtain county since 1913, moving from texas. He was a farmer and a member of the Baptist church.
He is survived by his widow: six sons, Loy Hardwick, Cactus, Tex.; Doy Hardwick, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Charles Hardwick, San Diego, Calif; and Roy Don and Lynn Hardwick, both of Harris; two daughters, Mrs. Bill Matlock, Anchorage, Alaska; and Miss Loretha Hardwick, Harris; his mother, Mrs. S. F. Hardwick, Lebanon, Ore; four brothers, Charles Hardwick Wewoka; Coy Hardwick, Bakersfield, Calif.; Ottis Hardwick, Odessa, Tex.; and Jack Hardwick, Lebanon, and three sisters, whose names were not available at press time. Elmer Hollingsworth officiating. Arrangements and burial in the Denison cemetery were under direction of Coffey funeral home. Mrs. Lou Rainey Cain Dies at PollardMrs. Lou Rainey Cain, 79, of Pollard, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. L. Hendrix, in Pollard, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (Aug 18, 1953) following a brief illness. Born in Burnside, KY, on Sep. 10, 1873, she had resided in McCurtain Co., 40 years, moving here from her birthplace. She attended the Baptist church.
She is survived by one son, Ed Cain, of Idabel; one daughter, Mrs. C. L. Hendrix (Stella), of Pollard; four sisters, Mrs. Martha Strunk, of Flatrock, KY; Mrs. Sarah H ardwick, of Lebanon, OR; Mrs. Dollie Ellis, of Enid and Mrs. Lola Weldon, of Madill; one brother, Jim Scott, of McAlester; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild. Shotgun Blast Is Fatal For C. M. Smith, Body Is Found Near Roadway At PollardClarence Monroe Smith, 46, Pollard, was found shot to death shortly before noon Sunday. The body was discovered just off the road at Pollard by Morris Edmondson, Idabel, and investigating officers believe that Edmondson drove by within a few minutes after the fatal shot. Assistant County attorney, Bill Christian and Deputy Rufus Fuller, who investigated, said there was no doubt that the wound was self inflicted. A charge from a 12-guage automatic shotgun entered Smith's mouth and mangled his head and face. The body was dicovered on its back with the shotgun and a piece of board across the legs. Officers believe the board was used to fire the gun. Mrs. Smith was in church at the time.
Born in DeKalb, Tex., September 27, 1910, he had resided in McCurtain county 30 years, moving from Texas. He was a farmer. He is survived by his widow: five sons, Robert Smith, Graton, Calif; Billy Smith, Helsberg, Calif., and Jerry, Joe, and Wayne Smith, all of the home; six daughters, Mrs. James Kelly, Helsberg; and Misses Rachel, Bernice, Barbara, Rita and Geneva Smith, all of the home; three brothers, C. H. and Charles Smith, both of San Francisco, and Eldon Smith, Haworth; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Presley, Broken Bow; Mrs. Anna Mae Walker, Harris, and Mrs. Lucille Rolen, Idabel, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services have been set for 3 p.m. today at Pollard church with Rev. Carter Wright officiating. Arrangments and burial in Pollard cemetery are under direction of Coffey funeral home.

Rites For Octa Cain Scheduled Octa M. Cain, 67, Idabel, died at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, February 7, at her home in Idabel. Born June 17, 1903 in Carterville, Mo., she had been a resident of Idabel for 45 years, moving from California. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Cain, of Idabel; one son, Charles of Idabel; one daughter, Mrs. Allyn Inglis of Phoenix, Ariz.; one foster son, R. Nelson of Idabel, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, in the Idabel Norwood-Welch Funeral Chapel, with W. W. Starnes officiating. Arrangements and burial in the Pollard cemetery are under the direction of Norwood-Welch Funeral Home.

Services For Cain Thursday William Edgar Cain, 82, Idabel, died Tuesday in the Memorial Heights Nursing Center. Born March 27, 1894 in Kentucky, he had been a resident of McCurtain County 50 years, moving from Texas. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Allen Inglis of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Charles Cain and Raliegh Nelson, both of Idabel; one sister, Stella Hendrix of Pollars; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Manuel Rites Set Thursday Zachary Don Manuel, 3, of Haworth, died Monday, Aug 4, south of Idabel. He was born June 21, 1994 at Talihina. Manuel had lived in McCurtain County his entire life. He was born to Kerry Don "Junior" Manuel and Jennifer Marie Harris Manuel.
He will be laid to rest alongside his mother Jennifer Marie Harris Sullivan. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Norwood-Leonard Chapel, Idabel, with burial following at Harris Cemetery.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Junior and Sabrina Manuel of Orange, Texas; his stepfather, Eddie Sullivean Jr. of Haworth; his half-sister, Samanth Manuel of Orange, Texas; his grandparents;, Johnny and Charlotte Manuel of Orange, Texas, Donnie and Gladys Carrell of Broken Bow, Jerry and Susie Harris, and Eddie Sr. and Jo Sullivan, all of Haworth; his great-grandparents, Charles and Patsy Cain, Mae Manuel, and Bill and Dale Lambert, all of Idabel, Luther and Mary Wilson of Haworth and Pauline Harris of Harris; two uncles, Andy Manuel of Orange, Texas, and Scott Harris of Haworth; one aunt, Jackye Manuel, of Orange, Texas; and numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Otto H. Burns Dies Monday Otto H. Burns, 69, Haworth, died at 2 p.m. Monday at Kansas City. Born September 10, 1894 at Appleton, Minn., he had resided at Haworth 12 years, moving from Kansas City. He was a rancher and a member of the Lutheran church.
He is survived by his widow; two sons, George and William, and two daughters, Barbara and Shirley, all of Haworth, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Paulsell, Saint Louis, MO,and Mrs. Martha Emde, Appleton, Minn. Arrangements are under direction of Norwood-Welch funeral home.

Burns Services Set on Friday Last rites for Joan Burns, 69, who died Tuesday at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Ark., will be held at the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church Friday at 5 p.m. Mrs. Burns was born Jan 8, 1920 in Tom. She had lived in the county all her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Burns in 1965.
Survivors include two sons, George and William Burns, both of Haworth and two daughters, Barbara Walls, Stephenville, Texas, and Sherry Young, Haworth. Also three sisters, Edith Tatum, Idabel, Jean Tapley, Hawoth and Letha Romero, Dalhart, Texas and 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Burial will be in Pollard Cemetery under direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel.
James R. Nelson

July 1995 James R. "Pistol" Nelson, 82, died Sunday, July 9, 1995 in Idabel. He was born Sept. 16, 1912, in Joplin, MO. Nelson worked as a farmer and was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Idabel. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was involved with the V.F.W. He had lived in Idabel since 1920.
He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Nelson in 1924; his mother Lula Harrison in 1919; a brother Victor Nelson in 1987; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Nelson in 1920. He is survived by one brother, Opie Nelson of Lompoc, Calif.
Funeral services were held Monday at Nation Chapel in Idabel with the Rev. Bud Wilburn officiating. Burial was at Pollard Cemetery in Pollard under direction of the Nation Funeral Home of Idabel. (Note: Pistol was buried in the Cain plot as he had spent many, many years living with the family of Ed Cain.)

Hendrix Rites Set TuesdayFuneral services for C. L. Hendrix, 84, Pollard, are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Troy Maye officiating. Hendrix died Sunday in McCurtain Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1901 in Renault, Ill., he had resided most of his life in McCurtain County, 53 years in the Pollard community. He and Stella Jane Cain were married March 27, 1919 at Moon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Joan Burns of Pollard, Edith Tatum of Idabel, Letha Romero of Dalhart, Texas, and Jean Tapley of Pollard; one son, George Hendrix of Oregon; 15 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; one brother, Osman Hendrix of Parker, Ariz. and one sister, Irene Marsdon of Phoenix, Ariz. Arrangements and burial in Pollard Cemetery are under the direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel.

Hendrix Rites Set WednesdayStella Hendrix, 89, Pollard, died Monday in McCurtain Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hendrix was born Feb 14, 1899, in Somerset, KY to James and Lou Cain. She lived virtually all her life in McCurtain County, after moving here as a girl. She married C. L. Hendrix on March 27, 1919, in Moon.
He preceded her in death on April 6, 1986. Also preceding her in death was one son, George Hendrix. Survivors include four daughters, Joan Burns, Pollard; Edith Tatum, Idabel; Letha Romero, Dalhart, Texas, and Jean Tapley, Pollard; 15 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in the Pollard Cemetery under direction of the Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel.

Born at Nashville, Ark., March 27, 1883, he had resided in this county for the past 34 years, moving from Nashville. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Shults Baptist church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Shults Baptist church with Rev. Joe Kirk and Rev. John Strutton officiating. Arrangements and burial in Denison Cemetery are under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Funeral Held Friday For Rev. J. W. Pettigrew Rev. James W. Pettigrew, 72, died Thursday at his home in the Honey Grove community after three weeks illness of bright's disease. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Honey Grove school house, Rev. H. A. Rhoten officiating. Burial was in Rock Hill cemetery under direction of Chappell Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and three sons. Mr. Pettigrew was a retired minister.

Bozarth Services PlannedRaymond A. Bozarth, 61, Idabel, died Monday in the McCurtain Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 4, 1914, at Welty, he had been a resident of McCurtain County 16 years, moving from Oklahoma City. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired employee of the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
Survivors include two brothers, Charlie and Carl Bozarth and two sisters, Irene City and Norma Gorden, all of Idabel. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Idabel Norwood-Welch Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Eugene Strickland officiating. Arrangements and burial in the Redland cemetery will be under the direction of Norwood-Welch Funeral Home.
Ben Parish

Death of Ben ParishFuneral service for Ben Parish, age 52, was held at Holly Creek Tuesday afternoon by Rev. A. R. Luton, pastor of Broken Bow Methodist Church. Mr. Parish, a farmer, who lived west of Idabel, passed away Monday afternoon. He had been ill for several days of malaria and remitting fever. He was a good citizen and a member of the Methodist Church.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Maggie Parish, and three children: Mrs. Gladys Williamson; Odell Parish, 17 years of age, and Thurman Dale Parish, 7 years of age, all of Idabel community. Burial was in Holly Creek Cemetery.
Ruth F. (Pat) Bonner
Contributed by Michelle HuppRuth F. (Pat) Bonner passed away of natural causes in Portland, OR in Saturday March 26, 2005. Pat was the wife of Maj. Ret. Dan H. Bonner who was born and raised in Idabel. In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter, Michelle Hupp and husband Mark, was preceeded in death in 1975 by her son Michael. She is also survived by her granddaughters Lori L. Krumm and Tammie Harmon, great grandchildren Mary and Tessa Krumm, Michael and Taylor Harmon.
Services will be held in Portland at 10:am Friday, Skyline Memorial Gardens with interment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Locally she is survived by Delma J. and Ruby Bonner and their families as well as many life long friends in Idabel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made in her memory to the First Methodist Church of Idabel.
