A CAMEL CARAVAN DELIVERS THE GOODS
1998---2005

The R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company began marketing 'limited edition' Camel cigarette tins beginning December 1998. The blue and silver tin was the first to hit retailer's shelves. The Camel Turkish Gold was a September 2000 mail-in offer using Camel C-notes. Click on the Turkish Gold tin to see the advertising flyer for this special promotion. The beautiful Camel Turkish Jade tins (full flavor and lights) were originally an April 2001 Michigan test market. Five colorful Camel "Pleasure to Burn" tins were released November 2001. These limited edition tins are based on Camel's current advertising campaign featuring nostalgic characters from the 1940s and 50s. This campy old time look has a twist, each drawing sports something modern. The man wearing the fedora has an earring, the carhop roller blades, while the girl lounging is using a cell phone. Check out a point-of-sale ad for the tins here. Three additional very, very limited edition "Pleasure to Burn" tins were also released. The theme is the game of 'pool,' and these handsome hustlers picture two dudes and a beautiful woman, each with cue stick in hand. Camel Cigarettes sponsors the yearly Las Vegas Camel Pro 8-Ball Championship at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. Jeanette 'The Black Widow' Lee was the crowd favorite in 2000, and the only woman competitor. She finished seventeen out of 96, beating many of the world's best pool players. I suppose it's just an accident, but the lady pictured on the Camel tin looks a lot like Ms. Lee. A colorful Camel Lights promotional tin picturing a good looking woman with curves in all the right places, and featuring a 50th Anniversary Playboy Club Tour logo, was released March 2004. A unique promotional tin of twenty mellow Turkish Silver cigarettes was sent as a gift to select RJR customers. Blackjack Gin and the other Vegas gaming tins were released September, 2005.
