"TOPS THEM ALL"
ca. 1940s

The dashing Toppers Cigarette was a house brand sold by United Cigar stores. Established in 1901, United Cigar was the largest chain of smoke shops in both the US and Canada during the first half of the 20th Century. Originally a part of the American Tobacco Trust, then the Whelan Drug Store chain, the 975 red-fronted United Cigar stores were neighborhood fixtures well into the 1950's. Redeemable coupons, together with a premium catalog that was chock full of household goods and smokers accessories, were used to promote United Cigar sales.
