STEPHANO'S HELLENIC TOBACCOS CIGARETTE
1924
Hellenic tobaccos are the Oriental tobaccos that are grown in the north-eastern part of Greece. This region is called Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and it shares borders with Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the east. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace are divided into the tobacco growing regions of Seres, Kavala, Drama, and Xanthi. The exquisite tobacco grown in these four districts is aromatic and known for its sweet taste. The two Stephano brothers, Constantine and Stephen, were originally from the village of Tsondila, Epirus, Greece. They had this to say about so-called Turkish tobacco: "These cigarettes are made from a selection of the best tobacco grown in the provinces of Eastern Macedonia and Western Thrace. The former of the provinces quoted was acquired by Greece (Hellas) during 1913 and the latter at the end of the great World War and due to this the so called Turkish Tobaccos are now in reality Hellenes."
