"EGYPT'S PEERLESS CONTRIBUTION TO MODERN LUXURY"
1878---ca. 1910

Royal Nestor Cigarettes were named after their manufacturer, Nestor Tsanaklis. In 1878, Mr. Tsanaklis (1850-1932), a Greek from Thrace, began making his own brand of cigarettes in Cairo, Egypt. Located in a former Turkish Pasha's palace in the fashionable Rue Masr-el-Ateeka, this grand factory was a model of beauty, cleanliness, and status. In 1905 a second factory was opened on Roxbury Street in Boston, Massachusetts. The high tax on finished cigarettes imported into the US, forced Tsanaklis to manufacture his cigarettes here too. There were also branches in Frankfurt, Germany and London, England, along with a large warehouse in Cavalla, Macedonia. Mr. Tsanaklis claimed the honor of being 'By Appointment Purveyor to H. H. The Khedive of Egypt'.
