GATEWAY TO ENTERTAINMENT
1937---ca. 1940s
New York City's Rockefeller Center is best known for its handsome art deco design, the skating rink and nearby Christmas tree, and the famous high stepping Rockettes chorus line. The Rockettes perform on the stage of the Radio City Music Hall, part of the 14 building complex. Another popular entertainment destination was the Rockefeller Center Tobacco Shop. Located in the R.C.A. Building, the smoke shop proprietor sold his own distinctive brand of cigarettes and smoking tobacco. The black Rockefeller Center cigarette pack had an appropriate art deco flavor picturing several of the sky scrapers. The cigarettes were first made by the Christian Peper Tobacco Company in Missouri beginning 1937.
The wonderful and rare Rockefeller Center Cigarette pack is from the collection of Carlton Wilkins of Connecticut. Thanks for sharing Carlton.
