PALL MALL'S CROWNING TOUCH
June 1911
British and commonwealth cigarette manufacturers issued numerous commemorative packs and tins that honored and glorified the monarchy. It is rare to find an American made cigarette packet that celebrated any of the European or Mid-Eastern royal families. However, noble advertising testimonials were commonly used to entice American smokers. Pictured below is a deluxe Pall Mall wood box with a padded silk top that commemorates the 1911 coronation of England's King George the Fifth. This regal Canadian (I think) box is one of ten thousand issued to honor the new king.
My friend Bruno Zappaterra is an Italian cigarette pack collector who specializes in Pall Mall boxes. Bruno would like to know why the Italian word 'Guelph' is on the front of some early PM boxes. If you know, please write Bruno here.
