"CELEBRATED PALL MALL LONDON CIGARETTES"
1899---2004

Butler-Butler was a small New York City manufacturer that introduced two new luxury American cigarettes named after famous London landmarks. Beginning 1899 and 1900 respectively, Butler-Butler manufactured Pall Mall and Piccadilly cigarettes from expensive straight-Turkish tobaccos, and sold them in small clam-shell boxes that reeked of sophistication. The Piccadilly cigarette was short-lived, but Pall Mall was destined for greatness. Priced five times higher than the common domestic brands made solely from Virginia tobacco, the Pall Mall cigarette was advertised with the slogan "A Shilling in London A Quarter Here." Pall Mall was modernized in 1936 with a new tobacco blend and soft pack, king sized in 1939, and in 1940 had "Wherever Particular People Congregate" added to the front of the pack.
