THE LAST WORD IN CIGARETTES
1904---ca. WWI
The Turco American Tobacco Company made their Egyptian style cigarettes at 23-25 Worth Street in New York City. This plant was officially known as Factory 508, 2nd District New York. Omega, along with Kef and Luxor, are probably the best known of the ten brands of cigarettes that this small manufacturer made. The valuable Omega coupon that is mentioned on the box band, was unique. This coupon was really one of 50 different black-and-white insert cards that pictured American buildings and landmarks. If Omega smokers acquired a full set of all 50 numbered cards/coupons, they would be exchanged for either a watch, gloves or three other useful items. Omega smokers could also send in 100 unsorted cards/coupons and receive a silk tie.
Turco American advertised their ten cent Kef Cigarettes with a wonderful sign that pictured a bare-breasted Egyptian lady smoking a Kef while reclining on a bed. Egyptian symbols included the desert plus a magnificent silver palace style column with a nude woman at the bottom and a sort of Phoenix creature at the top.
