THE REGAL SPLENDOR OF MOGUL
1914---1915

The brightly colored Mogul Cigarette box and advertising pictured below feature two of India's majestic royals. A moderately priced 15 cent all-Turkish tobacco smoke, the Mogul Cigarette was named after the wealthy potentates who lived lavish and opulent lifestyles. Mogul ads and box graphics hint at luxurious palaces, lush gardens, exotic entourages, bejeweled dancing girls, and all the other regal trappings that made the dashing mogul an emissary of the good life. About one half of all Mogul Cigarette advertising took advantage of the American smoker's vivid imagination of all things Oriental. The advertising was meant to appeal to class conscious smokers living in the US's metropolitan cities.
