EXUBERANT MIGNON
1897---ca. 1944

The Poulides Bros. made their Mignon cigarettes at 69 Pearl Street, and later at 80 Washington Street, New York City. These factories were located in the financial district near Battery Park. The Poulides were a family of tobacconists who had immigrated to the United States from Greece. In August 1940 this small company was being run by Mr. Themis Poulides, who found himself in trouble with the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC forced Mr. Poulides to "cease stating in any manner that he has a depot or branch at Cavalla, Macedonia, Greece, or that the cigarettes sold by him are made at and imported from such locality...." Mignon No. 1 was the Poulides Bros. most popular brand, but Egyptian Beauties and Tarnar cigarettes were also produced.
