FOLLOWING THE TRUST DISSOLUTION
1918
The Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company (L&M) continued to manufacture many of the former 'trust' cigarette brands that they had been awarded following the 1911 American Tobacco Company monopoly dissolution. By 1918 Chesterfield and Fatima were L&M's two most popular cigarettes. Favorite, Home Run, Perfection, Richmond Straight Cut, and Virginia Brights continued to be advertised in newspapers, while Piedmont was promoted with newspaper ads and trolley car signs. Clix Cigarettes, the old Allen & Ginter brand, had already been discontinued, but American Beauty, Broadleaf, Caporal 1/2, Carolina Brights, Coronet, Coupon, Cycle, Drum, Duke of Durham, Duke's Best, Duke's Cameo, Imperiales, King Bee, Obak, Old Judge, Old Mill, Picayune, Premiere Qualite, Rex, Spur, Sultan, and Virginia Extra were still made.
