FASHIONABLY IN STYLE

That's a mighty contented looking lion posing with the Egyptian lady. The Middle Eastern women portrayed by American artists were invariably young, pretty, and exotic looking. Zaphirio Cigarettes were made in Chicago beginning 1912 by immigrant P. Zaphiriou, a Greek from the island of Samos. In Style was a product of New York City's Crescent Tobacco Company. The red conical fez pictured on the In Style box was popular headgear in Turkey until 1925 when it was banned in an effort to modernize the country. Rose of Egypt Cigarettes were made in New York by the Antoniedes Company. This firm also made Raumo Cigarettes, and was in business from 1890 until 1920. The printed notice on the back of each of their cigarette boxes stated: Factory No. 174, 3rd District, NY. In 1910, there were thirty manufacturers of cigarettes located in New York City.
