"TRULY THE FLOWER OF THE EAST"
ca. 1893---1913
Mr. Yak Oussani was a Turk and a tobacconist, and proud of it. Yak and his employees made their high grade cigarettes from imported Turkish tobacco at 14 Park Place, New York City. This address was officially known as Factory 21, 2nd District NY. Yak Oussani and Co. participated in the 1901 Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo with a factory display in the Manufacturer's Building. Yak advertised his hand-made Egyptian King Cigarettes to exposition smokers by handing out a colorful Victorian trade card that stated his cigarettes could be bought in the smoke shops of several fine NYC hotels including: Broezel, Mansion House, Arlington, Columbia, and the Statlers. This small firm also made the Egyptian Flower Cigarette. The graphics trade-mark on both brands pictured the Turkish sultan Mehmed V, the last of the Ottoman conquerors of Asia Minor.
