DUKE'S BEST CIGARETTES
1884---ca. 1920
W. Duke, Sons & Company advertised their Duke's Best Cigarette with a colorful 1880's bull-fighting ad. A Victorian woman is pictured pretending to be close, but ready to elude, and in the end, impale. This parallel between sexuality and bull-fighting was used effectively by author Ernest Hemingway, and by the unnamed artist who created the picture below.
A special thank you to Craig for sharing his wonderful Duke's Best Cigarettes packet.
