A BALLY BABY
1936

Walk into any Las Vegas casino and you will be greeted by long lines of slot machines. Many of these modern LCD electronic slots are made by the Bally Manufacturing Company. Pictured below is a 1936 Bally Baby, the first of the many popular Bally slot machines that were to follow. This little tyke is just 5 inches by 7 1/2 inches, weighs 8 pounds, and originally sold for $17.50. Because it doesn't pay out with coins, the miniature three reel machine is known as a 'trade stimulator.' These one cent mechanical slot machines were placed on a retailer's counter and customers played to win cigarette packs. Camel, Chesterfield, Lucky Strike, Old Gold, Philip Morris, and Spud are the brands pictured on the reels.
