"THE LITTLE TRAMP"
1974---1975
Meet Tramps, "They're lovable. They're gentle. Altogether, nice to be with." With a pack featuring a silhouette of the "Little Tramp" character made famous by Charlie Chaplin in silent movies, Tramps Cigarettes were test-marketed on the heels of an early 1970's Chaplin Revival. US manufacturers of consumer products were heavily into nostalgia during this bi-centennial decade. Soda pop bottlers reissued their old serving trays, breweries resurrecting once defunct brews, and cigarette makers were offering nostalgic posters of their early ads. Tramps followed suit with advertising reminiscent of an earlier era when life was simple, unhurried, and without pretense.
