TODDY CIGARETTES GO RIGHT TO THE SPOT
1890's
The Drummond Tobacco Company of St. Louis, Mo., advertised their Toddy Cigarette with girls---lots and lots of girls. The showcard pictured below was meant to be displayed by a retailer, who was urged to: "hang this card in a conspicuous place in your store. It will attract attention and assist you in selling these Toddy Cigarettes." Toddy was also promoted with the N437 set of free cigarette insert cards. The 23 Actresses cards had graphics similar to the showcard pictured, but included the young lady's name in a box below her portrait. There were two additional sets---the N438 Bathing Girls and the N439 Actresses, which were different than the first set of women.
