THE THREE KINGS CIGARETTE
1876---1895

The three kings that William Kimball named his new cigarette after weren't the magi of the New Testament, but the kings of tobacco. This very old cigarette was made for sophisticated urban smokers from a blend of Turkish, Perique, and Virginia tobaccos. Many 19th Century cigarettes were named after brands of smoking tobacco, as was The Three Kings Cigarette. As handsome as the wonderful Three Kings ad pictured below is, the actual packet was unadorned. No great graphics, just a brandname, the names of the three tobaccos, and the manufacturer.
