AN ARMORED CRUISER AND HER MAN OF WAR
1880's

With an emphasis on a woman's derrière, the fashionable soft bustle of the 1870's eventually became so outlandish that it was spoofed by at least one 1880's Victorian trade card artist. Social status and respectability were the rewards for a woman wearing such uncomfortable under-garments as the bustle and corset. The erotic allure of Victorian fashion is evident in the advertising trade card issued by the fine folks at the Richmond firm of Allen & Ginter.
