"PERFECT IN ALL RESPECTS!"
circa 1880's
The pretty young ladies pictured on these Victorian trade cards are advertising Racquet and Lawn Tennis Cigarettes. The Allison Bros. Company of Rochester, NY claimed that their cigarette brands were "Above all others in quality. Below all others in price." The new Lawn Tennis Cigarette was patented Sept. 7th, 1880. Racquet was introduced to smokers in 1885. Both brands were made in the Genesee Tobacco Works factory. 1880's families entertained themselves by playing games around the home. Lawn tennis was the new fad, and vied with croquet as a popular party game.
These lovely Victorian trade cards were also issued as small signs.
