PALL MALL FAMOUS CIGARETTES
1910---1919

The original Pall Mall Famous Cigarette was a very expensive smoke selling ten for 25 cents. Advertising reflected this premium price with campaigns appealing to elite smokers able to travel the world, stay in elegant hotels, dine in restaurants where the maitre de greeted them by name, and who could afford and appreciate the luxuries in life. Pictured bottom row left is a 1917 art nouveau ad titled Fragrance, and it has this to say about the Pall Mall smoker: "A ship's bell sounds across the water. The lights of yachts at anchor shine brightly in the night. In the lee of the deck house you break the white band. The red box opens. The spicy scent of Oriental mystery is blended with the salty breeze---PALL MALL."
