WS_FTP LE (Windows95)
To download WS_FTPLE for Windows95:
1. Create a file on your desktop to download WS_FTPLE into.
On the desktop, click with the right mouse button, select new,
then folder, and name it temp.
2. Open Netscape (note: if you do not have Netscape, insert the name
of your browser), and bring up the Ipswitch WS_FTP registration and download page
http://www.ipswitch.com/ws_ftp_reg.html
3. Scroll down until you find the download button. Click this button.
(you can fill out the form if you wish, but it is not required).
4. When the next page has loaded scroll down and click the start download
button. After the download starts, you may get the message "unknown file type" -
just click the "save file..." button.
5. Now you will need to select the folder to save the file in. Choose the
folder we made on the desktop called temp, then press the save button.
Installing WS_FTPLE
6. Once the file is done downloading close Netscape and go into (double click)
the temp folder on the desktop.
7. Double click on the file WS_FTPLE. This will open WinZip to
unzip the program (if you do not have WinZip, you can get
WinZip here.
Using WS_FTPLE to upload user page files
8. Once you have unzipped WS_FTPLE double click on the WS_FTPLE icon.
9. Press the NEW button.
10. In the Host Name put: users.ap.net
11. In the User ID put your user name (i.e. joeblow).
12. In the Password put your password (remember that the user name and password
are case sensitive (i.e. upper and lower case)).
13. Then press the OK button. (If you do not get a response, you may not be
connected. If your dialler is not dialled in you can manually start
the dialler. You can either open Netscape to dial in, or you can double click the My
Computer icon (located on the desktop), then double click the Dial-up Networking icon,
and then double click on the dialler labeled AccessPort. After it has dialled in, minimize
the dialler window, close the Dial-up Networking and My Computer windows and go into the
WS_FTPLE program and try to login in again.).
14. Once logged in you will see the WS_FTPLE window which is divided into 2 sides.
The left window is your computer and what's on it, the right windows is our server.
In the right window you will want to make a directory called public_html. To do
this click the MkDir button on the Remote system (right side window) and type in
public_html then click OK. On the Remote system (the right window) there should
now be a directory called public_html.
15. Double click on the directory public_html to open it.
16. To upload your web page files to the server you will need to look in the left
window (your computer) and find any files dealing with your web page that you want to upload
(note: the page that you want to be your initial web page needs to be called index.html)
select them (single click with the left mouse button) and click the arrow pointing to the
right window.
Now close WS_FTPLE by pressing the exit button.
Your page(s) are now uploaded to the server!
To view your web page(s)
1. Make sure that WS_FTPLE is closed (if it is not closed, close it by clicking on
the exit button).
2. Start your web browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, ect.)
3. Go to the AccessPort home page (http://www.ap.net/)
4. Click the link called visit our customers' Web pages, scroll down until you find
your user name and then click your user name.
- OR - For the more experienced user, in the address (or location) put the address of your
home page:
http://users.ap.net/~your-user-name-here).
To update your Web page(s):
1. You should still have your pages on your system, so make the necessary changes,
and save your file(s). (If you do not have your files any more, follow the steps under the
section "To bring files to your computer from the Remote system").
2. Open WS_FTPLE in the connection window fill in all the necessary information
(steps 10-12), then follow steps 15 and 16.
3. Close WS_FTPLE by clicking the exit button.
Your pages have now been updated!
To delete unwanted files from the remote system
1. Open WS_FTPLE in the connection window fill in all the necessary information
(steps 10-12).
2. Open the public_html directory (double click with the left mouse button).
3. Highlight the file(s) that you want to delete.
4. On the Remote system (the right window) click the delete button.
5. Close WS_FTPLE by clicking on exit.
Your files have now been deleted.
To bring files to your computer from the Remote system:
1. Open WS_FTPLE in the connection window fill in all the necessary information
(steps 10-12).
2. On your computer (the left the window) double click on the directory you want to
transfer the files into.
3. Highlight the file(s) you want to transfer from the Remote system (right side of
the window) to your computer.
4. Click the arrow pointing to your computer (the arrow in the middle of the window
pointing to the left).
Your files are now transferred!
5. Click the exit button to close WS_FTPLE.
