Mercer Co., PA Probate Records, Will Book, Vol. 1 Pg. 3In the name of God Amen, I Arthur McCan of Wolf Creek township and state of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of sound mind and memory thanks be to God for it. Considering the uncertainty of this mortal life doth make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form in following that is to pay all lawful debts and funeral charges to be paid as soon as it can be collected out of my personal estate after my death. And I leave and bequeath as follows unto my beloved wife Catherine McCan I leave and bequeath one third of my estate real and personal and this one half of my house hold furniture and the ful benefit of all the clear land during her natural life or widowhood and the remaing two thirds to be equally divided between my son Arthur McCan and my daughter Isabela McCan excepting a fourth part to my son John McCan out of said two thirds. The remaining half of my household property before mentioned I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Isabela McCan. I leave and bequeath unto my son Thomas McCan six dollars and unto my son Dan'l McCan six dollars and after my beloved wife Catherine McCann's death I leave and bequeath what is remaining of her third to be divided between my son Arthur McCan and my daughter Isabela McCan and leave and bequeath unto my son Arthur McCan one gray mare and I appoint Wm. Elliott and James Collins to be my sole Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills formerly made by me.

Adams County was formed in 1797 from Hamilton County. The area included all or parts of todays Scioto, Gallia, Highland, Pike, Lawrence, Jackson, and Brown Counties in Ohio.
Scioto County, OH Portsmouth is the county seat in Scioto County OH. The Townships of Scioto County are Porter, Bloom, Harrison, Vernon, Rush, Washington, Green, Union, Rarden, Brush Creek, Valley, Clay, Jefferson, Madison, Morgan and Nile.
In 1803 Scioto County was formed and divided into four townships, beginning with Nile Twp., which took in everything below Careys Run. Union Twp., was the largest and consisted of the land between Careys Run and the Little Scioto River, north to about the site of Lucasville. Upper Township was made up of all the eastern portion of Scioto County east of the Little Scioto. Seal Township consisted of all the northern part of the county above Union.
